I’m having a hard time determining what to think of the fingerling. Is he a real being, living inside of the narrator’s body? Is he actually able to control what the narrator does and says? Or is he more of a conscience. A voice inside that is able to say what the narrator really wishes he could say on his own. That the foundling isn’t a real blood son, therefore no matter how much the narrator wants to love him, he can’t because the real bond isn’t there and in his mind he knows that. With all the impossible things that happen in this book, with the moons being created or sons being sung into existence, it’s hard to tell what is real and what is fake, as we have discussed in class.
